It’s that time of year again…time to take measures to protect privacy & personal information while shopping
Thu, Nov 25, 2021
WHITEHORSE – With the holiday shopping season upon us, it’s time to think about the need to safeguard your personal information and privacy while shopping, both virtually and in person. To help citizens be aware of the privacy risks and how to reduce them, the Yukon Information and Privacy Commissioner Diane McLeod-McKay is once again issuing a holiday shopping tips sheet. In addition, one of her staff, who has expertise in online security, has created a video demonstrating ways to help ensure you are not fooled by online fraudsters.
“Shopping takes place all year round of course, but at this time of year, many people are doing more buying than usual and might be more pressed for time,” said McLeod-McKay. “Nevertheless, it’s wise to take the time needed to avoid risking your privacy and personal information. To help Yukoners, we have updated our tips sheet on privacy for holiday shoppers and, as a new initiative, we have developed a video that illustrates some of the risks and how to avoid them. We are hopeful that this ‘show and tell’ approach will help get the message across about how important this is.”
