Parliamentary ombuds across Canada call for a cautious approach to vaccine certification systems

WHITEHORSE - Yukon Ombudsman Diane McLeod-McKay is part of a joint guidance document and news release on vaccine certification, which was issued today by the Canadian Council of Parliamentary Ombudsman (CCPO).
The advice from the offices of Canada’s parliamentary ombuds is aimed at territorial and provincial public sector organizations under the jurisdiction of ombudsman across the country, including those providing services such as public education, housing and health services. The ombuds are calling for a cautious approach that places fairness at the heart of any potential vaccination certification system applied to public services. They have developed a set of administrative fairness principles that territorial and provincial governments should take into account when considering or developing vaccine certification systems.
(Note: The guidance document references municipal governments, as parliamentary ombuds offices in other parts of Canada have jurisdiction at the municipal level. The Yukon Ombudsman does not have municipal jurisdiction.)
