BC and Yukon Privacy Commissioners and Ombudsman issue a joint special report calling on governments to adopt a framework for responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) in decision-making in the public sector

Thu, Jun 17, 2021

Ombudsman and Privacy Commissioners in Yukon and British Columbia are calling on governments to adopt a framework for responsible use of artifical intelligence (AI) decision-making that includes the need to protect fairness and privacy when AI is used in public service delivery.

A special report released today by the three offices, Getting Ahead of the Curve, raises a number of fairness and privacy concerns with the use of AI that impact the public. The report notes that AI is replacing the judgement of human decision-makers in public service administration around the world. It includes a number of recommendations about steps governments should take for responsible use of this technology.
