Wed, Nov 13, 2013
Diane McLeod-McKay, Yukon's Information and Privacy Commissioner has completed her review of Bill 61, the tabled version of the Health Information Privacy and Mangement Act (HIPMA).
In her comments McLeod-McKay provides a general overview of the HIPMA and specific comments on certain provisions in the HIPMA. For certain provisions, she highlights that Yukoners should consider whether stronger privacy controls are needed to adequately protect their personal health information. In her concluding comments she states:
As the HIPMA is before the Legislative Assembly, it is up to Yukoners now to decide whether the HIPMA has robust enough privacy controls to adequately protect their personal health information. Therefore, despite its length and complexity, it is important that Yukoners and other stakeholders read the HIPMA together with these comments and communicate their views to MLAs on the adequacy of privacy controls in he HIPMA as it moves through the legislative process.
