IPC finds the Public Service Commission has been overcollecting personal information
Thu, Apr 16, 2015
WHITEHORSE – The Information and Privacy Commissioner released her Investigation Report today on a complaint that the Public Service Commission (PSC) attempted to collect a photocopy of the Complainant's birth certificate contrary to the requirements of the ATIPP Act. The Complainant was a dependant of a Yukon Government employee.
The Information and Privacy Commissioner found that the PSC did not establish that it was necessary to collect a photocopy of birth certificates from dependants to enroll them in extended health care benefits.
In her Investigation Report, the Information and Privacy Commissioner cautioned against practices involving photocopying identification documents without considering other processes of verification that would not violate the ATIPP Act.
See the IPC's Final Investigation Report for more details.
