News Release: Data Privacy Day
Fri, Jan 29, 2016
WHITEHORSE – January 29th is Data Privacy Day, a day recognized globally to promote privacy awareness. The goal of this Data Privacy Day is to raise awareness about the need to ensure that when information is shared between public bodies or with private and non-profit bodies that the personal information will be adequately protected in accordance with privacy laws.
Recent events demonstrate there is a need for Yukon public bodies to ensure they have proper information sharing agreements in place.
In recognition of the risks associated with information sharing, Canada’s Information and Privacy Commissioners issued a joint resolution in which they highlighted the importance of ensuring personal information is adequately protected when sharing information between bodies and that there is transparency about what information is being shared.
