News Release

Release of two Reports by the Information and Privacy Commissioner

WHITEHORSE – The Information and Privacy Commissioner (IPC) released two Reports today.

The Inquiry Report released today contains the IPC’s findings following her review of the Whitehorse Correctional Centre’s (WCC) refusal to provide access to a video record.  The IPC found WCC could rely on some but not all sections in the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act (ATIPP Act) cited for refusal. No recommendations were made in this Report.

The Investigation Report released today contains the IPC’s opinion following an investigation into a complaint about WCC’s handling of an access to information request and search for records.  The IPC concluded that WCC’s search for records was adequate.  She also concluded that WCC acted contrary to the ATIPP Act in its handling of the access to information request and made four recommendations.  One recommendation was refused by Justice.
